Early History
Opened to settlers in the late 1700s, Wellsboro grew through surveying, trade, and local governance. The Borough was officially incorporated on March 16, 1830, and later adopted framework under Pennsylvania's General Borough Act.
- 1786 Initial land surveying in the area that became modern Wellsboro.
- 1802 Early permanent settlement and development near present-day borough center.
- 1830 Borough of Wellsboro formally incorporated.
- 1885 Borough organized into wards to support growth and representation.
